My review

Thumbs up

A great, interactive book about mixing colors. My child follows the instructions, rubbing a dot or mixing things up. It’s an early introduction to how red and blue make purple. My child asks to read it again a lot.

Blue vs. Yellow

My review

Meh

Some of the color examples feel a bit random to me. A blue crab has blue in it, but it doesn’t look obviously blue to me. For introducing colors, I prefer Mix It Up! I’d borrow it if my local library has a copy.

What worked for us

My child follows the instructions, rubbing a dot or mixing things up. It’s an early introduction to how red and blue make purple. My child asks to read it again a lot.

Why Blue vs. Yellow wasn’t my first choice

The book shows drawings of different things as examples of colors. Some choices feel less clear to me. A blue crab, for example, has blue in it, but it doesn’t look obviously blue to me.

Which would I choose?

For introducing colors, I’d buy Mix It Up! The instructions give my child something to join in with while we read, and it gets requested a lot. I’d borrow Blue vs. Yellow if my local library has a copy.
